“Deep in Earth” is a poem written by Edgar Allan Poe. It was not published during his lifetime but is believed to have been written around February 1847. Following its’ discovery in October 1914, it was reprinted several times under different names, notable as “Deep in Earth” as well as “Couplet”.

The entirety of the poem consists of two short lines:

Deep in earth my love is lying
And I must weep alone
